About The Natural Soap Company

Natural Soap Company

The Natural Soap Company creates beautiful and luxurious handmade soaps from small workshops based in Norfolk.  All their soaps are made in small batches entirely by hand, using a cold-process soapmaking technique (involving no boiling of the soap or addition of chemicals) and natural ingredients.  The end result is a lovely creamy soap which, because of the presence of glycerin, won't dry your skin like a typical mass-produced soap.

Soap comes from a chemical reaction between oils and lye, called saponification.  This produces glycerin as a by-product and it has long been known that glycerin is a natural moisturiser.  In cold-process soapmaking it is stirred back into the soap during production, whereas in commercial soapmaking, it is washed away as a waste product.  This means that handmade soaps retain all the glycerin, making superior and gentle bars of soap.

The starting ingredients are purified water and edible-grade olive, coconut and palm oils.  Then a selection of extra ingredients are added to make the soap extra special - avocado, jojoba, sweet almond, apricot kernel and hemp oils, nutrients such as shea butter, cocoa butter and beeswax, and cosmetic pigments for colour.

The Natural Soap Company only use pure, aromatherapy-grade essential oils to scent their soaps, never made-made scents.  Essential oils cannot be beaten for their glorious fragrances.  Many of their soaps contain powdered flowers, oatmeal, corn meal or honey, though some are left alone.  Their soaps are beautiful to look at and an overwhelming pleasure to use - there is nothing nicer than a handmade soap, and these are some of the best!
